        Overview:
        The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent, nonprofit research organization that seeks to empower patients and others with actionable information about their health and healthcare choices. PCORI funds comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER), which compares two or more medical treatments, services, or health practices to help patients and other stakeholders make better informed decisions.
        The Ethics Counsel and Compliance Officer will provide legal advice to PCORI, with a focus on conflict of interest, ethics matters, and legal compliance initiatives. The Ethics Counsel and Compliance Officer will work independently and directly with executive and senior professionals in multiple PCORI departments and with other members of the Office of the General Counsel and Executive Office and will report to the General Counsel.
        Experience: 8 or more years of legal experience advising academic medical centers, medical or health-related providers, payers, or industry, federal health-related agencies, health-related associations, health-related journals, and/or medical research funders or sponsors, including on conflict of interest and legal compliance matters.
        Compensation: Competitive base salary and generous benefits commensurate with experience.
        Relocation: Local candidates preferred.
        Bar: Currently licensed in good standing to practice law in Washington, DC or admission in Washington, DC within first year of employment at PCORI.

The vast majority of the research that PCORI funds is for CER projects, but PCORI also funds awards to promote engagement in research, dissemination and implementation projects, methodology research, and the development of research infrastructure, including PCORnet - , the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network. PCORI has provided funding for thousands of studies that compare healthcare options to learn which works best, given patients' circumstances and preferences.
        Since December 2012, PCORI has funded more than $3.9 billion in research and related projects, including those that support the methods and capacity for conducting that research, and funding to help more patients and other stakeholders become involved in the research process. PCORI funds projects that study topics such as improving outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preventing maternal morbidity and mortality, COVID-19, rare diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pain care and opioid use, among many others.
